Figure Review: e2046/Gathering Haruhi Special Edition
by Randall Fitzgerald on Mar.21, 2007, under figures, japan
This was my first order from e2046 through their Gathering series pre-painted recast of BUBBA’s now world famous Haruhi resin kit. Let me quickly say, I am totally smitten with it and it exceeded my expectations. Want to hear the best part? Well, they were giving away a free black version to one lucky buyer… and GUESS WHAT!! THAT LUCKY BUYER WAS ME! Absolutely fucking wonderful! I have seriously never won anything before (in a literal sense as regards luck based contests) and wow. Anyway, it’s a beautiful thing. Thanks e2046. Really made my day.
Now, other than my wailing about having won, surely you guys will want to see more of the Haruhi. Hit the jump after the picture to see the full review and get the skinny on the quality of this figure beyond what their shots will show you.
Ok, I want to start this review by hitting the main point here. If this Haruhi is any indication, Gathering prepaints are absolutely worth the money. The paint is crisp and sexy looking, the shine on the bunny suit is what I would hope it to be, and everything is expertly put together.

The stockings look good and are extremely well picked out for the size of the figure. I was a bit worried about the possible thickness, but things turned out ok. Also, the base looks good! It’s just a normal sort of base piece, but it’s really well done. +5

Moving along, I’m sure lots of you want to see the guitar. There was some extremely minor warping in the middle of the neck of the guitar (and I accidentally knocked off two of the tuning knobs) but it looks damn good. Remember, those knobs missing was me. They’re fragile as hell.

The details in the back are subtle and well painted. And while there seems to be a bit of lean, it may balance properly due to her top half. Of course, the peg might be a bit off and could maybe use some better positioning by me. Still, resin bends a lot less than the standard PVC, so it won’t be such an issue.

And lastly, I wanted to show of the extremely nice sheen of bunny suit, and I got a shot that really sort of shows it off well. Maybe not the best thing to end on, but hey, there’s a shit ton more pictures if you view the Flickr set. which I will link below.

If you liked the few shots I tossed into this review, please, PLEASE visit the FULL 51-SHOT Flickr set with all the stuff I took. And if you liked the figure, by god, keep an eye on e2046.com and their Gathering releases for things you might like. And maybe pre-order that black Haruhi that I’ll be getting when they start taking orders. Congratulate me on winning! Hahaha. Oh, and let me know what you think of my first real figure review.

OMG you lucky person!! Which one will you be keeping??
March 21st, 2007 on 11:26 pm
Both! :D
It’s such a kickass figure, and I am a rabid BUBBA fan, so there you go.
I have a special shelf I will be devoting only to Haruhi (anime, not just the girl) figures, since I am getting like 8 of them.

They kept chunking haruhis out. The lastest casting that I saw was much much worst than I started on my Haruhi. Imagine a hole the butt…
March 21st, 2007 on 11:32 pm
Btw what camera are you using?
March 22nd, 2007 on 12:15 am
The casting for mine is wonderful. The hole on the butt might be for the tail? Maybe?
Anyway, I am using a Nikon D40. It’s a nice, affordable dSLR. Plus I love Nikon.

Hah! I had a feeling that was you :P I saw the name “Randall” early yesterday morning thinking, “no way, it couldn’t be!” You lucky bastard you! Heheh, but hey it’s awesome to know you won…
March 22nd, 2007 on 6:29 am
Ah so that’s what the hole in the butt is for.^.^
So you got two? Man that’s some lucky. The guitar strings on yours look good. I’ve seen a couple where the strings were all loose and bent. Nice pics!

lucky you !!
I passed on this one because I already had the black one, but this red is great too !

rats:
Glad you dig the photos. That D40 is a real beauty, man. First thing I did when I opened the box was check the strings. Haha.
And all three of you calling me lucky… I refuse to believe it! It think the real answer is simple! Haruhi has shone her godly light on me and pushed and pulled my fates in a direction that draws us together.
