World Hobby Festival Report Roundup
by Randall Fitzgerald on Aug.04, 2006, under figures, japan
Well, I’m sure not all of you are aware of this joyous fact, but it’s con season in Japan. And in Japan, cons tend to have a more tangible result than most Americans are used to. That’s fine though. You guys keep buying 100 yen Naruto gashapon for five dollars. But I’m getting off topic here. The point is, Comiket is next week, Wonder Festival Summer is the week after that and just this past weekend we saw the beautious bounty of World Hobby Festival down in Kobe (BEEF! Shit, now I’m hungry for some Kobe beef…). Anyway, just be forewarned before I start linking these WHF reports that there ARE adult figures included in these sets, and they aren’t necessarily going to be blurred, as that’s at the discretion of the site and not me. But who wants to see blurred nudie figures anyway?
- kansaitei – Not the place to go looking for high-res shots, but they have good quality shots of most of the stuff from the show, and they even hold all the 18+ stuff for page 3, so you can browse pages one and two without worry.
- orz.nu – orz.nu’s coverage is laid out by the sculptor’s name. This is especially useful if you’re like me and you wanted to see Bubba’s new stuff, which happened to be that Haruhi figure everyone is buzzing about. This just serves to affirm my assertion that Bubba is the best sculptor in the world. Anyway, orz.nu is a good spot for high-res shots, but not the best for variety.
- kinu – kinu’s shot is just a huge page full of thumbnails with no sorting or paging. Just the raw juicy. Nudes are mixed in with all the rest, so reader beware, and all that. Sadly, kinu tended to go a bit heavy on the flash a decent bit and the pictures really pay the price for it, with a decent amount of washout. Oh well! The number of pictures is nearly obscene, so no complaints!
On the downside, this event being in Kobe, and so close to WanFesu, it really keeps a lot of the major sites (read: nice cameras) from really showing up and doing tons of photos. Ah well! This should give you a good idea of what to expect out of WanFesu, and I’m sure to a far lesser extent, of Comiket. I hope you’re all getting excited. WanFesu product pages have started to crop up already, so you can expect me to be starting up a WanFesu Summer category on Monday and to be plopping things in there. I will do my best to keep coverage quality, even though I’m not in Japan. I will remedy that at some point as well. Haha.

Waterfall,
Thanks for the extra links! I didn’t have time to go around looking for stuff since I am still busier than Jesus at work. Certainly you are an asset to the comment box. Haha.
Nuke:
Yeah, it was a good WHF, fosho, but WanFesu is going to be the hottest of the hot this summer. I’ve got a good feeling. I liked the Pinky:st. stuff. Vance is keen.
