Sunday GX Magazine has confirmed that there will be a second season of Black Lagoon. I wasn’t terribly skeptical, because rare’s the time that MoonPhase is wrong, but it’s at least nice to see such a quick turnaround on the confirmation. Though, some insider who was set to put it up later probably leaked it to MoonPhase anyway. Ah well.
While no other information was released for the second season, the release dates of the first season’s DVDs went up along with the confirmation. The first disc will be released on the 26th of this month for 5,775. All 6 DVDs will cost the same price and contain two episodes each, including some extras. Their respective released dates and such are like this.
- July 26th, 2006
- August 30th, 2006
- September 27th, 2006
- October 29th, 2006
- November 29th, 2006
- December 27th, 2006
Oh, and just so you guys know, this was literally all the news today. All the figure shit I saw was for Pirates of the Crappy Crap Suck. Bobbleheads and shit. Very uncool. There was tons of it though. Had me thinking I was going to be buried in figures.
I’ll wait for the US release, Thank You.
Well, I still need to see the end of the first season! God I hate Shinsen.
Haha, that’s how I feel about no one subbing Himawari! I think I’m alone in that sentiment.
I’m with you with that Himawari needs to be sub feeling. I just hope Shinsen will ‘urry up so I can decide whether to buy the dvd or not.
Only two episodes per DVD? Ouch. A whole season is going to cost a pretty penny.
Well, guess what, you are not, Himawari is great show, but still, the subbers aren’t so great :/
Last release was at end of May for the love of “#/ยค#
Seems like another group picked it up, but seems to have gone to slowmotion since then :&
Yea, it’s “great” thing for Black Lagoon to see a second season, while Shinsen hasn’t done anything for the first season. The only thing they seem to put out is Blood+ at the moment.
Yea Nuke, sad truth, sad truth. How I’d like to see even 3 eps per dvd, that would be somehow _realistic_, but they want to get cash from it big time :/
Nuke:
Price of doin’ business in Japan. Some OVAs hit 9000 yen or more. It’s kind of scary actually. Haha. They have this big issue with buying imported stuff for that reason. They likes their monies. CORRUPTION!
Chronos:
Himawari needs the love. I’d even settle for a batch torrent of the raws, since most of the single episodes torrents are dead. But maybe that’s what we should all do! I will use those raws to help me hone my Japanese skills! TAKE AN EXAMPLE PPLZ! :D
Funsubbers have a tendency to do whatever they feel like, which is fine, I guess, but I’ve always sort of felt that doing something for free is no excuse to be shitty at it. I should note that I wouldn’t have a problem with groups dropping a series if they would just fucking explain why in an open and understandable fashion, and “we started doing too many subs” is bad planning, so not a good excuse. I could go on and on, but I’d get some self-righteous fansubbers in here bitching at me because they think I don’t know what it’s like to do free work. Well, when you do free work that you release, you don’t do a faggy job of it, I never have, and I expect as much of my contemporaries. STOP WHINING AND SUB HIMAWARI ALREADY, FUCKERS.
re: DVD costs
It’d be nice if they tried a lower price point to make money through volume sales instead of a high per-unit cost. Or, throw 3 or 4 eps per DVD… or if they’re going to keep it at 2 eps per disc, release each volume with a nice Black Lagoon trading figure.
Ah well, one can dream… :)
re: some fansubbers
I know what you mean. I really appreciate all the hard work they do. I have some experience as a fan subber back in the early 90′s so I know what kind of work it entails.
But I agree with you. Some of fansubbers use the “take it or leave it, it’s free” line to pass off shoddy work. Some even get pissy when fans try and be helpful and point out mistakes, awkward dialogue etc…
Free or not, the results ultimately reflects the group. Doing quality work only when you feel like it doesn’t cut it in the real world. Some fansubbers need to develop a solid work ethic and a professional, mature attitude. That includes doing a good job even when they’re under no obligation to do so.
Nuke:
The problem in Japan is their idea of no-inflation with a high starting price. Everyone gets used to it because the cost of living stays pretty much the same, but it limits things for outsiders. Moreover, I’m pretty sure they not only get the high priced sales, but the volume as well. Price seems to be less of an issue for people in Japan for whatever reason. I was reading an article asking people on the street how much they spent in a week on clothes and some people were saying 30,000 and 40,000 yen so I went back to the question to make sure I didn’t read “month” and it still said week. $300 to $400 a week on designer clothing from SEVERAL people on the street. Other people were still saying between 50 and 80. AWEEK!!! OMG!
Now the fansubbers will come after you too, Nuke. Haha. We’re done for!! But yeah, I agree and I think there’s this feeling of not doing your best if you don’t have to that some groups have (admittedly, there are groups that do an awesome job). I’m not talking about taking a bit of time off, or having a life to deal with, just things like sloppy subbing and random stoppages that put hundreds and thousands of fans of a show completely out of luck. MAKES A MAN CRY!
Yeah, I guess I did paint a target on my forehead. :P But undeniably, some fan subbers need to hear that kind of criticism. If you’re gonna do any job, do it right.
$300-$400 a week on clothing?! Given their population density, where do they get all their closet space?! Or are those consumers so trendy that they just burn stuff that goes out of style the week after? ;)
