Barstow Community College, the one and only?, has said that it will display copies of Paul Gravett‘s Sin Against All That is Holy and Pure, alternately titled Manga, 60 Years of Japanese Comics. The announcement obviously comes in the wake of Bill Postmus’ insistence that the book be removed from library shelves based on the single complaint of a single parent. Kyri Freeman, a librarian with the community college, said, “In effect, we feel it was an act of censorship and not appropriate.” However, just before making a statement like that she bothered to mention that she believed the book did not go through the “appropriate process” before it was banned. Apparently, it became alright to ban things in this country it we put in enough signed and dated forms. Am I the only person who read the whole of the First Amendment? Sure, it’s a nice step, but she seems to be saying that they wouldn’t bother putting the book out if they had banned it after whatever the “appropriate process” is for stifling free expression and the free exchange of information. Seriously, somebody go type “boobs” into Google. Better yet, do an image search for manga. You make it all the way to page 2 before you see boobies and guarantee your spot in Hell. That’s a lot easier than going to the library for an informative book.

Seriously, Bill Postmus, if you ever read this, you are a failure as a public servant and I hope you find your way under a speeding bus. Why don’t you spend some time trying to raise that Median Household Income, which falls well below the state average (along with the number of persons in poverty which is moving on 2% HIGHER than the state average), or maybe you could spend some time promoting education instead of ignorance so that the population percentage with a bachelor’s degree could even begin to approach the state average. You’re more than 10% below on that account. That explains a lot.

Enough on this. Hopefully Barstow will keep laying down the funk, and closed-minded hicks (yes, hicks. They’re everywhere) like Postmus will either learn something and stop being uninformed bigots, or just breed themselves into extinction. As you can tell, I’m not happy about this sort of thing.
