Volks customizable figuresVolks has posted up a good amount of information, and some pretty descriptive pictures, of their upcoming line of highly customizable figures. Judging from the site, you can get a body, hair, and hands and.. heads and stuff. Presumably you buy all the parts, and pose it up the way you like and I suppose you may also want to model some clothes for them. The site says that preorders will be coming soon, along with better, more robust website. You can get a full kit for around 4,800 yen sometime later this month.

I’m happy to see that Volks is providing more options other than their 1/6th scale stuff. The 1/6th scale stuff can get rather pricey. Wish I could sew. You get the most out of that hobby if you can sew.

That’s a pretty cool idea, I must say.

Cool new layout too, Randall! Keep it up

I’d almost rather get some modeler’s PVC and put together some PVC clothes to go along with. I dunno, it’s just fabric clothes always sort of feel out of place to me. I am biased though I guess. Damned Barbies.

Shay:
It is a keen idea. Would be nice if individual parts weren’t 1,500 yen though.

Thanks about the layout! Took me a while to get it everything working right because of the template system in WordPress. Not solid header files for certain common layout pieces. It could be a lot more mod friendly. :\

1,500 yen for custom parts?! I figured they would have charged much less for the custom parts in order to maintain a steady sales flow and customer base since the doll bodies alone are ~4,800 yen and hobbyists probably wouldn’t be buying those with as much regularity.

With that price point, you’re just begging people to start bootlegging parts.

They changed the link on my. Haha.

Actually, each head is 1,800 yen and hands and shoes are 600 yeah for four, it looks like. Individual bodies are 3,800 yen (no head). I guess it makes grabbing a single figure easy, but wanting a high degree of options for your single figure could get really expensive. I’m sure that as people buy or don’t buy the price will level out. Also it looks like they have plamo style cut out sheets of parts and accessories for 450 yen, I wish they had a bigger picture so I could tell what was on them.

Okay, that sounds a little more reasonable for parts and accessories, but the heads still sound relatively expensive. You’re looking at 5,600 yen for a blank doll body and a head.

Then again, Volks really targets the higher end hobbyist, or the dollmaker/customizer and not so much general figure collectors. I guess these prices really shouldn’t come as such a surprise.

Yeah, for what you’re getting. But still, you are looking at an easy way to get a good amount of money spent relatively quickly if you want a good selection of heads and bodies and stuff. Especially as more waves of the dolls are released with different styles. I mean where is the busty one? You know they’ll have to make one at some point! And it will cost you.
