naranai is finally in beta for 1.0! What? The sky is falling? I’d fucking believe it. I’ll have a naranai product site up sooner or later. Gotta finish the design. If you don’t know what naranai is visit this post.

Download: naranai Alpha (1.1.5b)
Bugs: http://bugs.dasaku.net/
WebSVN: http://svn.dasaku.net/
SVN: http://svn.dasaku.net/naranai/

CHANGE LOG:
Update 2010-01-14: I felt the inclusion of an installer really warranted the bump. The 0.0.5 is just for internal tracking. So this is the 1.1.5b release. Added an installer that is fast, easy, and makes the sexy. Like most of the site, it requires javascript, so don’t be a fucking putzy asshole.

So, a month or so ago, I got linked by a fairly high traffic site. Problem was, they just linked an image that appeared in one of my posts. What to do, what to do? Well, I certainly didn’t want people to just hit a hotlinked image all day and I didn’t just want it to give a 404 or 403, RIGHT?!

So I came up with a little .htaccess magic that will make sure your hotlinked visitors always get relevant WordPress content rather than just a crappy image saying please don’t hotlink, or some other worthless thing like that.

I call it smotlink. Because that sounds funny and it’s a combination of smart and hotlink, so it works.

It’s actually a pretty simple piece of code that comes in two parts. Firstly, you put this code at the beginning of your .htaccess file in the root of your wordpress directory.

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://.*?\.?yoursitehere.com [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://.*?\.?google.com [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://.*?\.?feedburner.com [NC]
RewriteRule /(.*)\.(jpg|jpeg|png|gif)$ smotlink.php?pic=$1\.$2 [L]

You’ll notice google and shit like that in there, that’s the make sure feed readers and things like that display your images properly. Add any ones you think you might need.

Next, you will need to copy the code below, edit the variables and your site URL, and upload it to the base of your wordpress directory as smotlink.php (the same directory as the .htaccess file from above).

Well, it’s a bit early yet, but I am planning to do a dasaku Network Meetup at Anime Expo 2009. If you’re planning to be there, drop a line at some point and something something something? I’ll probably just do something like a Saturday thing, we’ll get lunch, it’ll be a good time, maybe. Haha. I’ll likely do another post closer to the time to nail down specifics, and I might get in touch with a few blogger friends and see if we can’t compile a giant thing. I just wanted to shoot a post out because I know you crazy fuckers like to schedule your itineraries all early and so on, so maybe just keep in mind that you might do our little blogger meetup thing.

Hopefully some of my SoCal-based hostees will show up as well. Like I said, I’ll nail down specifics later. Just wanted to do an initial post now.

Who doesn’t love reading my bullshit? If you said “no one” then I couldn’t hear you because this is a blog post. But I did do a guest blog for my tit-covered friend Gia to help bolster her street cred and so on and so forth. Feel free to read it, although if you regularly read OCnE, the content will come as no great surprise to you.

UPDATE: As it turns out, I was censored by a certain goofy bitch. “The slight squeak that guy let out as the other guy ran up inside his choco-tube?” was replaced with some pussified version. There might even be other things. Last time I guest blog for someone. Especially someone who told she’d let me know about edits. Good job.

Your Mom and La Blue Girl = BFF?

Do enjoy. Later this week, we’ll be having a new Onii-chan Radio where we’ll be discussing the Handley manga obscenity trial and I will give you all of the ammunition necessary to prove to other people that they’re idiots.

Wow. Just wow. Getting this thing recorded was maybe one of the most harrowing experiences since elephants charged down mountains all those years ago. Did it come out well? … Eh. We had to do it three times, the recording software did a questionable job.

Is it funny? I like to think so. A bit funny, a bit insightful. Please do enjoy it. And if you have an idea for the name of this fucking thing, go for it.

Well, first things first. The Pirate Bay verdict is in. I’ll save you the link click, they’re guilty and they owe a ridiculous amount of money to people who are already rich. Likewise, Sweden has joined the shitpile and helped perpetuate a copyright system that has become as corrupt and flawed as the people who are using it to send kids to jail. Good work, guys.

I have an idea for how to fix the copyright system, but I doubt anyone wants to hear it.

IN HAPPIER NEWS: Inaugural episode of Onii-chan Theatre is up. Please do check it out and let me know what you think.

Hey, a motherfucker has to cross promote, right? Check out my new Onii-chan Radio episode.

Onii-chan Radio: Lun Lun Logic

And in case you’re brain dead, my site about porn is entirely safe for work.

Right, so I almost spaced on this since I’ve been so busy trying to get my shit together.

Very few of you likely remember this, but I did an interview a good while ago for ikimashou with a man who is easily the most talented translator working today (I am an authority on such things). His name is David Ury and I’m always happy to do what I can to help out such a talented guy (or I could do like on TV and call him a friend of the site. Yeaaah, not too creepy or presumptuous if he ends up reading this. Alright.), or in this case, his twin brother Ken Tanaka.

Ken’s going to be having an art exhibit in my neck of the woods pretty soon. Being the lover of fine art that I am and having seen some of Ken’s art, I had to let you guys know. You have to see Hopey the Hopeful Giraffe. It’s… it’s maybe the best thing painted this decade. Possibly this century.

Right, so here are some links and information so you guys can get yourselves acquainted with who Ken Tanaka is and his story and all that jazz.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awiW8UC3CWY – This is Ken’s intro video, explaining what’s up. (Short version: He was adopted and raised in Japan)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CnhnnGI5uM – Ken goes in search of his birth father.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO5FSDHIleA – Ken finds David, who needs a shave. Really I’m just jealous he can grow a better looking beard than me.

And that’s about it for explaining who he is. There’s some fantastic material on there (and oh man is Remi February a pretty lady.) I recommend checking out the Japanese language lessons.

Anyway, let’s get down to the art show. Firstly, it’s FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. That’s important for jobless fucks like me.

It’s going to be at the Billy Shire Gallery, which is in Culver City, California. Specifically:

Billy Shire Fine Arts
5790 Washington Blvd.
Culver City, CA 90232
Exhibition: April 11, 2009 – May 2, 2009
Opening Reception: Saturday, April 11th, 7-10 pm
(Google Maps)

Ken Tanaka’s work will be on display along with some other amazing artists. NAMELY: David Mack (creator of Kabuki, done some fucking amazing work on Daredevil), Mari Araki (she’s working on a graphic novel called Tina’s Mouth), Kozyndan (who has done some wonderful indie album covers), and I believe Remi February will have some art there as well. She has some lovely ink on paper stuff, but I’m not sure if that’ll be on display or her digital stuff or photography… or all of it.

Anyway, I am planning to go for sure and hang around and check out the installation. Anyone who’s in southern California, I hope you take the opportunity to go there and check out some great artwork.
